If you’re dreaming of an escapade encapsulated between grandiose landscapes, gastronomic delights and moments of relaxation, let us guide you through our exceptional itinerary in the South of France. From Cairanne to Sainte-Maxime, via the Ardèche and the Camargue, we’ve put together a trip that combines the best of this sun-drenched region. Here’s the story of our adventure and our tips for making the most of it!
Two Days in Cairanne: Between Wine, Vineyards and Sunsets
The magic of sunsets
Our journey began in Cairanne, a picturesque village renowned for its splendid panoramas and enchanting sunsets. We spent two days in this magical place, where every evening offered a unique spectacle. The golden hues of twilight illuminate the vineyards and surrounding hills, creating a serene and bewitching atmosphere.
Fête du Vin: An event not to be missed
We were lucky enough to visit Cairanne during the Fête du Vin at the end of July. This festive event gave us the opportunity to taste local vintages, take part in musical entertainment and immerse ourselves in the region’s wine culture. The festival is a real treat for the senses, with oenological discoveries and a warm atmosphere.
Our Culinary Recommendation: La Villa Saint-Antoine
To complete our Cairanne experience, we dined at La Villa Saint-Antoine. This refined restaurant offers elegant, flavorful Provencal cuisine, showcasing local produce with a contemporary twist. The charming setting and exquisite dishes make this place a must for gourmets.
Descending the Ardèche: A thrilling adventure
Strong Sensations and Magnificent Landscapes
After Cairanne, we headed for the Ardèche for a kayaking adventure on the famous river. We chose the 8 km descent, a course that took us over two hours, with stops on small beaches to cool off and enjoy the scenery. Although the course is magnificent, we found it very crowded, especially during peak periods.
For longer-distance enthusiasts, more extensive routes are available, offering even more natural beauty to explore. The awe-inspiring scenery of the Ardèche gorges is breathtaking, and the kayaking experience is a perfect immersion in the region’s wilderness.
Three Days in the Camargue: Beaches, Horseback Rides and Nature Discovery
Beaches and Escape in the Camargue
Our journey then took us to the Camargue for three days of relaxation and discovery. The immense, unspoilt beaches are ideal for relaxing by the Mediterranean Sea. We also enjoyed horseback rides through the seascapes and marshes of the Camargue, an authentic and rejuvenating experience.
Discover the Ornithological Park of Pont de Gau
A visit to the Parc Ornithologique du Pont de Gau is a must for wildlife enthusiasts. This park offers a unique opportunity to observe birds in their natural habitat. It’s the perfect place for nature lovers and those wishing to learn more about the rich bird life of the Camargue.
Sainte-Marie-de-la-Mer and Overnight at the Camargue Lodge
We also explored Sainte-Marie-de-la-Mer, a charming coastal village with an authentic atmosphere and welcoming beaches. For total immersion, we spent a night at the Lodge de la Camargue in Port-Saint-Louis, a peaceful haven ideal for relaxing after a busy day.
Four Days in Saint-Maxime: Luxury, Beach and Exploration
Stay at the Tourelles in Sainte-Maxime
To round off our trip in style, we spent four days in Sainte-Maxime, at the elegant Hotel Les Tourelles de Sainte-Maxime. This place offers refined comfort and a splendid view of the sea, perfect for relaxing after our adventures.
A day in Saint-Tropez: Between Luxury and the Calanques
We spent a day discovering Saint-Tropez, taking the boat from Sainte-Maxime. This excursion allowed us to visit the surrounding calanques and enjoy the legendary glamour of Saint-Tropez. The crystal-clear waters and coastal scenery are simply breathtaking.
Recommended Restaurant : La Dorade
For an unforgettable culinary experience in Sainte-Maxime, we highly recommend the restaurant La Dorade. This charming place offers refined Mediterranean cuisine with fresh seafood and tasty dishes. The quality of the food and the welcoming atmosphere make it a must for gourmets.
